On Friday, November 8, 2024, Masuk High School welcomed four Monroe veterans who shared their personal stories of service and sacrifice with students in the school library. Veterans Mr. Victor Yanosy, Mr. Jan Larsen, Mr. John Esposito, and Mr. Ray Ganser visited with several social studies classes, recounting experiences from their time in Vietnam and sharing insights into missions and aircraft work during their service years. The event provided students with a firsthand glimpse into the lives of these individuals who dedicated themselves to protecting the country.
The program was organized by Jamie Sherry, Social Studies Instructional Leader, with support from the social studies department and administration. Students filled the library with respectful attention, captivated by the veterans’ accounts. Many students expressed their gratitude by shaking hands with the veterans and thanking them personally for their service. This exchange brought a personal touch to the students' historical learning, bridging the past and present in a meaningful way.
After the presentations, the veterans were treated to a special lunch in the main office, courtesy of teacher Amy Bien and the culinary program. Ms. Bien shared her sentiments on the day, stating, “It’s a special way for us to thank our veterans for their sacrifices.” The lunch, prepared with care by culinary students, gave the veterans and staff a moment to connect, reflect, and celebrate the spirit of Veterans Day together.
This memorable event not only allowed students to learn history directly from those who lived it but also underscored Masuk High School’s commitment to honoring and remembering the sacrifices made by veterans in the local community.
